If You See This Label on a Fruit, Don’t Buy It! Here’s Why…
According to various studies, GMO food can have a detrimental effect on the human health. However, regardless of the growing opposition to genetically modified food, more and more food continues to be produced in this way.
How to recognize GMO foods?
This is not an easy process; however, there are some ways to distinguish between organic and non-organic food. You should buy products that have been verified by an USDA-accredited certifying agent and labeled USDA organic. And, if possible, buy your ingredients from local farmers who aren’t anonymous and are open to say how they grow their food.
Furthermore, fruits have labels that contain information about how the food was produced. These labels are known as PLU, that is, price look-up codes. These look-up codes are identification numbers and this is what they actually mean:
- 3, 4-not a GMO, however, it was grown with chemicals and pesticides.
- 9-the fruit is organic and grown without chemicals.
- 8-the fruit is genetically modified.
