The way in which the human body functions is really fascinating. It’s consisted of more than million different processes we don’t even know of or see. And, when there is something wrong, our body has a way of signaling us. Therefore, it’s crucial to be able to recognize these symptoms timely and thus, resolve the issue as soon as possible.

One way to do this is to look into your eyes, as they’re windows of what’s happening inside our bodies. So, if you happen to experience any of the following eye problems, you may have other, more serious health problems. Let’s take a look:

  • Persistent styes-styes usually appear on the eyes and they’re often painful and cause irritation. If they don’t go away after a couple days, that is, if they’re present for more than three months or so, you may be suffering from sebaceous gland carcinoma-a rare type of cancer which may manifest through recurring styes.
  • Loss of eyebrow hair-hair loss can be a result of numerous factors. Nonetheless, if you start losing hair on the outer part of your eyebrow, this may point to problems with the thyroid gland. Therefore, consult your physician as soon as possible.
  • Blurred vision-if your vision becomes blurry while you’re in front of a computer, this may mean that you have computer vision syndrome. Your eyes are strained because of the lack of contrast on the screen, a consequence of the ongoing staring into the screen while trying to focus.
  • Blind spot-if your blind spot has shimmering lights or wavy lines, you might be suffering from migraines. In most of the cases, blind spots occur with some kind of headache.
  • Protruding eyes-this is a clear symptom of hyperthyroidism-when the thyroid gland is overactive and produces excessive amount of the thyroid hormone.
  • Yellowish eye whites-this is a common symptom of jaundice which usually appears in newborns with immature livers, but it’s not non-existent in adults as well. When an adult suffers from jaundice, this might be a sign of gallbladder, bile duct, or liver problems.
  • Diabetics with blurry vision-diabetes increases the chances of developing eye problems. The most common problem that diabetics face is diabetic retinopathy-a condition which affects the circulatory system of the eyes. A lot of Americans have these condition and it’s one of the leading causes for blindness in America.
